I have put these here—handcrafted art from my teenage years—because I feel they show a natural fascination for the meticulous. There is something about process, repeated without error, replete with small details, that pulls me in. And I felt they made a statement about rebirth, renewal and recycling.

Every day we put on our shoes and head out, drawing no notice as we shuffle along. Must it be a mundane practice? I saw a way to draw attention to where we stand. The process of hand painting shoes had to be error free. But get it right, and people would be able to make a statement, at every step, for years to come.
